T-Ball and Football and Soccer, Oh My!

It’s that time of year! Summer Spike, Boy Scout Camp, T-Ball games, Soccer leagues, on top of all the fall high school sports!  Throughout the craziness of summer sports and camps that kids participate in, it’s important to remember the safety and wellness that go along with all these activities.

In the sports medicine field, a sports physical is known as a preparticipation physical examination (PPE).  This exam is given to find out the child’s medical history as well as determine their current physical state. It tests thing like your height, weight, vision, blood pressure, and checks your joints and flexibility.

If your child is playing high school sports, a physical is required. Don’t wait until the day before volleyball practice starts to get the physical! If there were to be any reason for a follow-up examination, it’s safer to allow for more time between your sports physical and the start of practice.

Kidshealth.org puts it well when they say, “Just as professional sports stars need medical care to keep them playing their best, so do teenage athletes. You can give yourself the same edge as the pros by making sure you have your sports physical.”

Northwest Health Services is offering $10 sports physicals from now until August 31. Check out our “Locations” link to find a clinic nearest you or call the number on our Home Page!
